About this site
An independent enthusiast’s encyclopaedia of microcars, written from named sources and drawn to scale.
The site
Every notable microcar is here, from Léon Bollée’s voiturette of 1895 to today’s electric quadricycles: bubble cars, cyclecars, kei cars, three-wheelers, invalid carriages and the cars you could drive without a licence. Each has a page, or a section of one, and each car is drawn to scale against the Fiat Nuova 500, which is 2,970 mm (117 in) long, the yardstick explained in what is a microcar?
It is independent, and not connected with any maker, museum, club or auction house.
How the pages are sourced
Every fact on a car or theme page comes from named sources, listed at the foot of the page; the links to them are on the Credits page. Where sources disagree, the page gives each figure with its source rather than an average. Where the record is thin, or rests mostly on one source, the page says so. Myths are named as myths when the evidence settles them.
Every picture is freely licensed or in the public domain, and credited under it.
The old microcarfan.com
From 2006 to 2016 microcarfan.com was a French collector’s site about voiturettes, mostly the licence-free cars of the 1960s to the 1980s. Its marque pages, from Acoma to Willam, now lead to the cars they described: the Acoma Mini Comtesse, the Willam City and the rest.
Corrections
Because every car and theme page names its sources, every statement can be checked against them. When a better source turns up, the page is corrected to match it.
